If you want to transfer you website from one web host to another then you should take the following steps.
First you need to make a copy of your entire website by using the FTP utility that you like. Thus you should download all the files to your computer from the web host. Those of you who are using Dreamweaver should use the "GET" command for copying the files. Those of you who are using "Frontpage" should use the import feature so that the website is completely copied.
Now you need to choose the new web host which you should choose according to your need by researching carefully about the storage space and bandwidth you are getting. Also check whether you are going to get the technical support that you need.
The next step is transferring the domain name. For this you need to consult the domain name registrar and then change the Domain Name Server (DNS) or provide the DNS information of your new web host to the registrar. Your site will experience downtime for 24-72 hours while the DNS record is being changed and the change is getting incorporated through the WHOIS server. Always remember to maintain the existing services that you have on your old domain such as web pointing, email forwarding and so on until the process of DNS record change is completed. Monitor the progress of the domain name transfer and see that the details will change when the transfer is completed
Now you need to upload all the file to your new web host after the domain name is transferred. In Dreamweaver you need to define the site first and then click on the "PUT" command so that the files and the html pages are transferred.
Now, after the files you need to transfer the web pages also to the new host with the help of Dreamweaver or FrontPage editors which can easily transfer the web pages. If your website do not look the same then make the design changes and after the transfer is over test whether all the services are working fine or not.
